Connection between breath and movement
Effect and origin of the dynamic, flowing yoga style
Vinyasa Yoga is a powerful and dynamic yoga style that, in contrast to the more static Hatha Yoga, is characterized by flowing sequences of movements. The focus is on the connection between breath and movement, which directs the flow of the asanas, also known as flows. The intensive sequences of movements in Vinyasa Yoga (sometimes called Power Yoga) will definitely make you sweat. The dynamic changes in position and the simultaneous coordination of breath and movement not only improve your physical endurance, but also your muscles and cardiovascular system and train your coordination.
Vinyasa in class
Vinyasa Yoga is characterized by flowing movements in which the individual asanas flow seamlessly into one another. These harmonious sequences of movements are called "flows". The sun salutation is a good example of this. During practice, it is crucial to synchronize breathing with the movements, which not only promotes physical endurance but also mental concentration. Whether you are a beginner or an advanced practitioner, Vinyasa Yoga offers the opportunity to connect on the yoga mat in a continuous flow of movement.
Origin and meaning
The Sanskrit term Vinyasa means to place or arrange something in a certain way. In Vinyasa Yoga, this refers to the dynamic sequence of yoga positions. The practice beautifully emphasizes the connection between body, mind and breath. The flowing nature of Vinyasa Yoga (or Flow Yoga) not only promotes physical vitality, but also mental clarity and mindfulness.
Who is Yinyasa Yoga suitable for?
Vinyasa yoga is perfect for anyone looking for a dynamic and powerful yoga practice. This style of yoga promotes physical strength, flexibility, coordination and concentration. The flowing movements can be very strenuous, burning calories and strengthening the cardiovascular system at the same time. As a beginner, however, it is recommended that you already have a certain level of basic fitness and master the most common asanas, as the practice can be demanding.
THE RIGHT VINYASA YOGA EQUIPMENT
Yoga mat: For the fast, sweaty movements, a non-slip mat with good grip is particularly important. To ensure that you don't lose your balance, the mat should not have more than about 4 mm of cushioning.
Our recommendations:
Outfit: Vinyasa can make you sweat quickly; an airy, barely noticeable outfit is therefore essential. Leggings and tank or bra tops are ideal for yoginis; male yogis are well advised to wear shorts and tank tops. Moisture-wicking functional materials ensure that sweat evaporates as quickly as possible.
Accessories: Depending on how much sweat you actually produce, it is advisable to always have a towel or mat cloth to hand; either just for drying off in between or as a non-slip mat cover for particularly sweaty exercises.
